Paladin (GreyHack)

From KJD-IMC Wiki

Jump to: navigation, search

The Paladin prestige class, together with the Knight base class, replaces the core Paladin base class in GreyHack. See also the GreyHack version of the Blackguard.

Followers of Ma'at or Ienth do not become paladins or blackguards; they become Orloughs or Rhapsodists instead (respectively). Similarly, followers of Highmaiden become Sentinels, and those of Tawn Bearcrown typically become Ursial Champions.

Paladin Class Abilities

Divine Channelling [Su]

A paladin's base channelling rate increases by 2, enhancing their ability to channel divine power.

Aura of Good [Su]

The power of a paladin's aura of good (as for the detect good spell) is equal to her paladin level.

Sense Evil [Sp; Channel reserve]

As long as a paladin has at least one use of divine channelling remaining, she may detect evil, as the spell, at will.

Divine Grace [Su]

From second level, a paladin adds her Charisma bonus on all her saves.

Lay on Hands [Su; Channel]

As a standard action that does not provoke an attack of opportunity, a paladin of 2nd level or higher can channel divine power to heal a creature with a touch suffused with positive energy. The paladin can use up one or more of her uses of divine channelling in one action to heal in this manner; each usage expended allows her to restore a number of hit points equal to her charisma bonus.

Aura of Courage [Su]

Beginning at 3rd level, a paladin is immune to fear (magical or otherwise). Each ally within 10 feet of her gains a +4 morale bonus on saving throws against fear effects. This ability functions while the paladin is conscious, but not if she is unconscious or dead.

Divine Health [Ex]

At 5th level, a paladin gains immunity to all diseases, including supernatural and magical diseases.

Discerning Insight [Ex]

A paladin can recognize when a person is trustworthy or not, giving the character a +2 bonus on Sense Motive checks when trying to get a "hunch" about the subject's personality after a 1-minute conversation.

Special Mount [Sp]

Class Level Bonus HD Natural AC Adj Str Adj Int Score Special
2- 4 +2 +4 +1 6 Empathic link, improved evasion, share spells, share saves
5- 8 +4 +6 +2 7 Improved speed
9-11 +6 +8 +3 8 Command kind
12-15 +8 +10 +4 9 Spell resistance (master's paladin level + 10)

Special Notes

Code of Conduct

A paladin must be of lawful good alignment and loses all class abilities if she ever willingly commits an evil act. Additionally, a paladin's code requires that she respect legitimate authority, act with honour (not lying, not cheating, not using poison, and so forth), help those in need (provided they do not use the help for evil or chaotic ends), and punish those who harm or threaten innocents.

Associates

While she may adventure with characters of any good or neutral alignment, a paladin will never knowingly associate with evil characters, nor will she continue an association with someone who consistently offends her moral code. A paladin may accept only henchmen, followers, or cohorts who are lawful good.

Ex-Paladins

A paladin who ceases to be lawful good, who willfully commits an evil act, or who grossly violates the code of conduct loses all paladin abilities and spellcasting benefits (including the service of the paladin's mount, but not weapon, armor, and shield proficiencies). She may not progress any farther in levels as a paladin. She regains her abilities and advancement potential if she atones for her violations (see the atonement spell description), as appropriate.

Multiclassing

Like a member of any other class, a paladin may be a multiclass character, but multiclass paladins face a special restriction. A paladin who gains a level in any class other than paladin may never again raise her paladin level, though she retains all her paladin abilities.

Redeemed Blackguards

A blackguard who forsakes his evil ways and is granted divine pardon sometimes becomes a paladin instead, pursuing his former associates with the same fervour he once directed towards the forces of good.

Min Blackguard Level Benefit
1 One extra usage of Smite Evil per day.
3 Whenever the character uses his Lay on Hands ability on a creature other than himself, he is himself healed of half the same amount (round up).
5 Another extra usage of Smite Evil per day. One extra usage of Remove Disease per week.
7 Once per day, spell-like ability of summon monster I as a good spell (CL equal to Paladin level).
9 Companion (?)
11 A character with more than ten blackguard levels can trade them in directly for paladin levels. He can reduce his blackguard level as low as zero by trading in, but this is done before calculating any other redemption benefits he may be entitled to.
