Well now, wasn't that special?
My domain host (NearlyFreeSpeech.Net) relocated their server farm yesterday. For various reasons they decided it was better to do a clean move, shutting everything down and moving it all at once, rather than trying to do a seamless move. I agree with their reasoning in this case; it's probably better to have the sites go black for a while than to have something go wrong in a subtle way.
It appears it didn't go as smoothly as they would've liked -- it took longer than the original high estimate, more than twice as long as the original low estimate -- but it looks like they got everything back up and running.
I'd like to commend them on how they kept everyone in the loop; I was able to look at their status page and see just how things were going, what problems they were running into that were delaying things, and so on. Things might not have gone as smoothly as everyone might have wished, but their openness about the process let us know what was going on and how it was going. Good enough for me.
Enjoy the new digs, NFS.

Added Special:Forum a forum to the Wiki. It's pretty simple, but should be an improvement over the Discussion tabs. If anyone knows of better forum software that knows how to deal with a MediaWiki installation, please tell me.

Okay, MediaWiki has been upgraded to 1.10.1. I've run into a few oddities with some extensions (if you've been trying to access the wiki this morning, you may have run into some problems). I think I've ironed them out, but if anything strange comes up, please tell me.

I just upgraded from MediaWiki 1.6.8 to 1.10.1. My initial checks suggest it looks good so far, but if you find any problems, please let me know immediately.
I said I updated and it looked like it was working fine? I didn't have a clue what I was talking about. I unpacked the distro and it was in /mediawiki-1.10.1. When I realized this and installed, Things Broke (it seems PHP 5.0 on my host's platform doesn't work properly, so MediaWiki refuses to run until PHP is upgraded).
So, never mind the upgrade, it didn't happen. Which annoys me, since I just spent an hour debugging an extension that doesn't work 'until' 1.7 (currently running 1.6.8 with PHP 4.x).
July 1, 2007... about
I have moved this wiki from http://www.kjdavies.org/wiki/ to http://wiki.kjd-imc.org/ because I want to free up http://www.kjdavies.org for some experimental web design. I'll leave the old one up for a while (they're actually the same wiki/database behind the scenes) but will pull it down at the end of July.
